Ayanda Mafuleka
Ms Ayanda Mafuleka born on the 5th of March, she is a mother of two girls and one boy. She is a devout Christian.
Early Life and Educational
Mafuleka is a Chartered Accountant CA(SA) She is currently completing her studies in Legum Baccalaureus (Bachelor of Laws).
Career History
Mafuleka has had a career in finance and accounting that spans more than 20 years, mostly in the public sector, and worked for: Transnet, South African Post Office; National Treasury (Ministry of Finance); Department of Home Affairs; Robben Island Museum; National Credit Regulator; African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation. She had a short stint in the private sector and worked for Anglo American Platinum. She is the current Chief Executive Officer of FASSET since 2019.During her tenure, FASSET’s performance have soared from 53% to above 90%, and the organisation obtained clean audit outcomes for consecutive years as conferred by the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA). Furthermore, Mafuleka has strongly pioneered flagship and legacy programmes aimed at developing and empowering women:
- Women Leadership Programme
A first of its kind project at FASSET, the programme is about advocating for women empowerment and leadership representation in the financial sector. The programme is delivered in partnership with International Women Forum of South Africa (IWFSA/Duke CE and Wits Business School. The programme is aimed at creating, empowering and mentoring a total of two-thousands (2000) women leaders from all walks of life who are the executive and middle management levels. The programme is 100% funded by FASSET, and it is implemented within 3 years-from 2022 to 2025. FASSET has invested more than $13,4 million (R250 million) in the programme over its duration of 3 years. - Women Creating Wealth Entrepreneurship Programme Another first of its kind at FASSET, is this programme through the partnership with the Graca Machel Trust,
aimed at empowering,
transforming, and incubation of six hundred (600) women led business from various sectors, mainly in the financial services sector. The primary focus of the programme is on economic and financial inclusion of women -led businesses and it targets the Small Medium Micro Enterprises (SMME). FASSET has invested about $789 320 (R14.8 million) over the period of 3 years. - Digital Transformation Programmes
Aligning the sector development to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the South African government’s Digital Transformation Strategy, FASSET rolled out the implementation of the digitisation programme to ALL fifty (50) Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges; ALL nine (9) Community Education Training Centres through the mass installation of state-of-the-art ICT hubs or ICT labs across South Africa. FASSET has invested about of $9.6 million (R182 million) towards this legacy and flagship initiative.
Other Activities
Mafuleka has and is still actively participating in various Boards and Audit & Risk Committees as a means of giving back: Department of Women, Youth and Persons with disabilities; National Youth Development Agency; Northern Cape Provincial Treasury; National Agricultural Marketing Council; Department of Communications; Tshwane University of Technology; Rand Water; Department of International Relations and Cooperation; African Renaissance Fund; SENTECH; ESKOM- the state-owned electricity utility, she is part of the board that has been entrusted to end the loadshedding.
-Netball South Africa Investment Group (NSAIG)- with effect from January 2024, Mafuleka has been appointed deputy chairperson of the board of the NSAIG and appointment was accepted as means to empower a girl child as the organisation raises funds towards the professionalisation and commercialisation of netball.

2023 – “Leader of Strategic Partnership of the Year” from the African Black Accountants of Southern Africa (ABASA)
Mafuleka aspires to leave of a legacy of “Paying it Forward’’ as well as to walk the talk on “Lift as you rise” for she fully believes that no one is too small or too big to make a difference!
